On July 10th, 2024, Ambassador Wu Peng visited the Chinese community in Johannesburg, accompanied by Minister Zheng Bingkai, Minister Counsellor Yin Qi, Consul General Pan Qingjiang, and Deputy Consul General Zhou Yujiang. The delegation toured key sites including Johannesburg's First Chinatown, the TCA Building, the Overseas Chinese United Health Club, and the South Africa Chinese Community and Police Cooperation Centre.
The Police Cooperation Centres are a special programme in which SAPS stations are overseen and trained by Chinese police officials, offering priority protection to Chinese settlers with officers trained in Mandarin, who deliver protection to Chinese settlers at a standard acceptable to the Chinese government.
Ambassador Wu met with several community representatives, expressing the Chinese government's concern for overseas Chinese and commending their contributions to local socioeconomic development and China-Africa relations. He emphasized the importance of upholding China's traditions, enhancing safety awareness, complying with South African laws, and contributing to the local community. The Chinese Embassy and Consulate General, he assured, would continue to provide robust support and services for the Chinese diaspora in South Africa.
The Chinese community warmly received the delegation, expressing gratitude for the consistent support from the Embassy and Consulate General. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening China-South Africa relations and contributing to China's development.
