Cape Port terminal to get 57 new haulers by August

The Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) has recently bolstered its operations with the addition of 10 new haulers, enhancing its fleet to 56. This upgrade follows the delivery of 45 new haulers to the Port of Durban, facilitated by a partnership with global shipping giant MSC. Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), in collaboration with Ocean Network Express, then arranged for 10 haulers to be shipped from Durban to Cape Town.

TPT emphasized that this transfer from Durban is a temporary measure, with CTCT set to receive an additional 47 haulers in August. Oscar Borchards, TPT Western Cape's managing executive, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in improving operational efficiencies.

"This fleet expansion will provide crucial support to our ship-to-shore cranes, enhancing our ability to load and unload vessels efficiently," said Borchards. He noted that all terminal management efforts are directed at meeting customer demands to deliver superior service.

The technical team at CTCT is currently integrating operational tools, including vehicle-mounted terminal systems, radios, and the Navis container management system, to ensure smooth workflow and distribution within the terminal.

"Since the haulers arrived at the terminal, we've been working to ensure they're ready for our operations. We anticipate they will be fully functional within the next few days," Borchards added.
